We took inspiration from the natural elements which surround the Bay of Plenty area, moving away from the beach and focusing on the inland elements closer to Tauriko. We proposed timber vertical planks to the walls in an undulating configuration. This was to symbolise the flowing Wairoa River. The use of these timber planks also represent the timber mills in the area as well as the blackened steel, used as the structural component in this design element. Lighting was installed at high level to create shadow and depth to the small and large timber planks running along the wall.

The photography displayed as light boxes is focused on representing the people of the area and through the design process we spoke to local clubs to carefully select these historical images, and the find out the stories behind them.

The topography wall reflects the Tauranga landscape and links in with the overall story that we have implemented in the design.
